PE

At Lakes, we strive to provide all of our children with as many sporting activities, and opportunities to be as physically active as possible. We are committed to all children having two hours of timetabled PE, during which we will focus upon ensuring that all children become physically literate.

We will do this by delivering high quality teaching of the fundamental skills which are necessary for children to enjoy and participate in physical activity and a variety of sports. In EYFS, KS1 and Lower KS2 we will primarily focus, and build upon, skills and small sided competitive games, whilst in Year 5 and 6, children will have the opportunity to take part in some specific sports such as tag rugby and cricket. We use Complete PE to support our planning and progression of skills.

Lakes PE Overview

During lessons, we will also provide opportunities for intra-class or house competitions while encouraging children to display good sportsmanship. Additionally, every child will have the chance to be a member of the class sports crew. This means that all children will have the experience of demonstrating, refereeing and helping with set-up of lessons. At our school, we follow the ‘My Personal Best’ initiative which strives to integrate essential life skills and qualities into the teaching of PE and across the whole curriculum. We focus on areas such as honesty, courage, self-belief, resilience and team work.

In addition to this, some of our Year 5 children will also receive Sports Leader training, delivered by the School Sports Partnership which will enable them to go on and run lunchtime activities and personal challenges for younger children.

Throughout the year, we will endeavour to offer after school and lunchtime sports clubs including table tennis, cricket, netball, running, football, gymnastics and dance.

As a school, we are always committed to providing the children with as many competitive opportunities as possible and we are lucky to be part of the Redcar and Eston School Sports Partnership who run fantastic sports competitions for our older children as well as fun development days for lower key stage 2 and below.

In addition, we provide Balance bike and Bikeability and Pedestrian training.

We are proud to have received the Gold in our School Games Mark application. This highlights all our efforts in sports and P.E. including competitions and after school provision. We have achieved this for four years running!
