The Curriculum at Lakes Primary School
At Lakes Primary School, we have been working very hard to produce a curriculum which not only meets, but enhances the requirements of the new National Curriculum. Our curriculum is organised in to themes which are run as part of a two year rolling programme and can be viewed in full on the Curriculum Units page.

We use Read Write Inc. to support with the teaching of phonics and early reading. Staff will be happy to share their expertise if you have any questions.
Teaching and Learning
We want to create an aspirational curriculum that gives children a sense of pride about living where they do, yet shows them the multi-cultural world that exists beyond Redcar. It will also give children a wide range of opportunities, developing resilience and promoting the belief that through determination anyone can do anything irrespective of background.
At Lakes we believe in the concept of lifelong learning and the idea that both adults and children learn new things every day. We maintain that learning should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for everyone; it should be fun. Through our teaching we equip children with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to be able to make informed choices about the important things in their lives. We believe that appropriate teaching and learning experiences help children to lead happy and rewarding lives.
We have decided on six core pedagogical principles which are the essential components to effective teaching and learning. These six principles of Effective Teaching and Learning are:

Independent Application
These principles form the basis of our Trust CPD and are interwoven in our strategic development plans.
