Geography is the integrated study of the complex relationships between human societies and the physical, chemical and biological components of the Earth. As Geographers, our children will study place, space and time, recognising the great differences and dynamics in cultures, political systems, economies, landscapes and environments in the local, national and international context, and the links between them.
When teaching Geography at Lakes, we begin with your child’s experience within the local neighbourhood and then plan progression following the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and the Primary National Curriculum so that they are introduced to:
- A wider knowledge of the world; including the environmental, economic, social, cultural and political elements,
- The relative physical position of places to one another on the globe and the geographical skills and vocabulary to describe these,
- A knowledge and understanding of the physical processes which have shaped the Earth as we see it today and the vocabulary to describe these; and
- The effects of mankind on the landscape and their current and future responsibility to limit this.
Our rolling prgramme uses both geographical and historical units to drive the topics.
