Science at Lakes is exploratory and investigative. Children are provided with stimulating questions to explore, which creates a sense of excitement and curiosity – a fundamental aspect of science learning. We aim to develop a passion for science and a lifelong interest in the subject.
We aim to develop a child’s scientific skills which include asking questions, predicting, observing and recording. To support these skills, we foster attitudes of open-mindedness, perseverance, resilience and co-operation to enable scientific exploration to occur.

Children in EYFS learn through allowing activities to be led by a child’s natural interest as well as structured play using materials such as water, clay or sand as well as building with blocks or bricks and using food to explore. Similar practical experiences underpin learning throughout KS1. KS2 children continue to develop their knowledge, skills and understanding in Science through investigations and experiments as set out in the scheme of work.
